Eastland Network new sponsor of science and technology fair

Eastland Network is the new major sponsor of the science and technology fair.

Organisers say this year’s fair will be bigger and better than ever with Eastland Group coming on board as the platinum sponsor.

“We’re more geared up than ever to fulfil our potential, and we’d like to thank them for their commitment to the community and this vitally important event,” says event manager Mihi Hannah.

“The Eastland Network Science and Technology Fair is our opportunity to harness the enthusiasm and creativity of our future thought-leaders. Every year hundreds of students take part, and in 2018 we’ll be focused on spreading the net wider and getting more schools actively involved.”

“Getting kids involved in science and technology has always been close to my heart,” says electric lines company Eastland Network’s general manager Brent Stewart.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, big thinkers and disruptors.”

Eastland Network is part of Eastland Group, which set up New Zealand’s first energy-focused community hub, Electric Village, last year.

Energy champion at Electric Village Katherine Evett says they will be supporting the Eastland Network Science and Technology Fair every step of the way.

“We’re really excited to be on board.

“Electric Village is an inspiring venue for students and teachers alike. Whether you’re looking for a great place to meet and discuss ideas, or you have got some questions you’d like us to answer, Electric Village is the place to come.”

The Mind Lab by Unitec is also taking an active role in this year’s fair, and lending its considerable expertise to the organisers.

Centre director Shanon O’Connor sees great potential in strengthening the role of the event in schools.

By getting students involved in the fair, parents and teachers had the opportunity to nurture their natural creativity and get them really excited about the world around them, and their potential role in it she said.

“There are so many ways that this can benefit our children, our schools and our community.”

Other sponsors include the Sunrise Foundation, First Fresh NZ, Elite Fire and Protection, Logan Print, Gisborne Fisheries, Harvey Norman Gisborne and Stenersen Kain Opticians. If you are interested in exploring sponsorship opportunities for your business, contact the committee at gisbornesciencetechnologyfair@gmail.com.

The Eastland Network Science and Technology Fair will run from August 16 to 21. Students who want to find out more should ask their teachers how they can get involved and keep an eye out for a new website — mysciencefair.co.nz.

The website is due to launch during the April school holidays and will contain great ideas, key dates and a list of all the awards that can be won.
