Colour Run to promote diversity and community inclusivity: Gisborne Herald
If you want to run and have fun, don’t miss the 2018 Opportunities Without Discrimination (OWD) Colour Run on Sunday.
The 2.5km run will set off from the Marina carpark at 10am but it is recommended you arrive earlier for a race briefing and to get prepared.
Spot prizes are up for grabs and participants are encouraged to wear odd socks to raise awareness of all forms of discrimination.
A free event, the intention is to promote diversity and community inclusivity.
“We want anyone to be able to participate and enjoy this fun-filled, family day”, said event organiser Arish Naresh.
“Having Amber Dental, BDO Gisborne and Eastland Group as sponsors means we can make this an event that everybody can attend — which is the whole idea,” he said.
While the run begins in an orderly manner, it quickly descends into colourful chaos — thanks to the biodegradable coloured powder that volunteers from Tairawhiti Multicultural Council and Gisborne Harrier Club will throw at the runners and walkers.
In 2017, more than 1000 people walked, jogged or ran their way through the flying coloured powder and this year the organisers are expecting 1500 to 2000.
“Who doesn’t like a bit of colour in their life?
“But don’t worry, it does wash out,” says Mr Naresh.
