Keen maritime observers have spotted a familiar visitor: the Westport-based dredger ‘Kawatiri’ is back in the bay. It’s here for a routine three week dredging operation to remove the sediment that builds up in the harbour navigation channel and turning basin. The crew will be working 12 hours a day until the operation is completed.
As well as dredging the Buller River and bar, the Kawatiri also undertakes outport dredging in Nelson, Greymouth and Gisborne.
